Chelsea close in on mega-money deal after dramatic twist – expert

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Chelsea stand a better chance of landing a mega-money front-of-shirt sponsorship after their good start to the season.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the “feeling and emotion” at Stamford Bridge is a lot more positive than at the start of the 2024-25 campaign after a dramatic twist in fortunes.

Chelsea have started their second consecutive season without a front-of-shirt sponsor after their deal with Infinite Athlete expired.

According to Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol (24 September), the London giants are in talks with Qatar Airways and two other airlines about becoming their next sponsor.

Football Insider revealed on 26 September Stamford Bridge chiefs have been forced to lower their asking price from £50million to £40million.

Wyness ‘expects’ Chelsea to wrap up mega-money sponsorship deal soon

Chelsea have picked up 13 points from their first six games under Enzo Maresca and sit fourth in the Premier League table.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “You’d think that with their decent start to the season, someone will sign up and give them the deal they’ve wanted.

“Boehly and Clearlake have hung out for the deal they wanted. If they get what they want in the end, they’ll be justified.

“I’d expect that to be done soon. I’m surprised it wasn’t tied up for the start of the season.

“Hopefully, the feeling and emotion around Chelsea is a lot more positive than a few weeks ago.

“That’s the kind of thing sponsors will be looking for – so I expect them to get it done soon.”
