Chelsea could now sensationally withdraw from competition – Keith Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed “big decisions” will be made in the “next few weeks” about Chelsea’s European participation next season.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed Uefa will be “tough” on controversial intra-company deals at Stamford Bridge.
It has been widely reported that Chelsea have attempted to circumvent Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) by selling club hotels and part of their Cobham training ground to a sister company.
Football Insider revealed last week (23 May) that the Blues are prepared to sell further real estate assets – paving the way for yet more controversy.
On 16 May, Football Insider revealed that Uefa’s financial regulations will likely exclude money generated by Chelsea selling assets.
The Londoners have qualified for the Uefa Conference League after finishing sixth in the Premier League this term.
Chelsea could be forced to pull out of Conference League in 2024-25, says Wyness
However, Wyness claimed Chelsea could be forced to pull out of the competition.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It’s a fascinating situation.
“The club are maintaining that they won’t pull out of European competition, but if something is found in relation to these property transactions – that may change.

“Uefa are tougher on these property sales and it may well be that Chelsea will have to pull out of the Conference League.
“Some big decisions are going to have to be made in the next few weeks.”
