Chelsea could now strike Jhon Duran deal after terms agreed – sources

Chelsea’s swoop for Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran is not yet dead despite a stall in negotiations, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on 16 June that the Blues are in advanced talks to sign forward Duran for £40million.

The Colombia international, 20, had reached an “agreement in principle” over personal terms but Chelsea are now scouring the market for alternatives.

Football Insider revealed on Saturday (29 June) that the London club have made a sensational approach for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

But the Magpies have now resolved their financial concerns with other sales and Chelsea could now revive their move for Duran in the coming weeks.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that a transfer “can’t be ruled out”, with the potential for a full agreement to be struck before the deadline in September.

Duran is currently away with Colombia at Copa America in the United States and has made one appearance at the tournament.

The 20-year-old made 37 appearances across all competitions for Aston Villa in the 2023-24 campaign, scoring eight goals.

However, the forward started in just 10 of those outings with Ollie Watkins one of the first names on the teamsheet for Unai Emery.

Duran is under contract at Villa Park until June 2028 after joining from Chicago Fire in January 2023.
