Chelsea could sign ‘top player’ after journalist’s Moises Caicedo update – pundit

Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo amid links to Chelsea.

However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and England number one said “it would be naive” of Graham Potter to target the 20-year-old before “assessing what he has got.”

On Thursday (8 September), Chelsea announced the appointment of Potter on a five-year contract.

According to The Sun‘s Dan King (10 September), Brighton are set to offer Caicedo a new deal amid fears he could follow Potter to Stamford Bridge.

The centre-midfielder currently has three years remaining on his contract at the Amex Stadium.

When asked by Football Insider if Caicedo would be a welcome addition for Chelsea, Robinson said: “Caicedo is a top young player and a lot of top European clubs will be looking at him as well.

“I’m sure Graham Potter is a huge fan having worked with him but it would be naive of him to think about transfers before looking at what he has got.

“When you look at that Chelsea squad, there is an abundance of talent. Potter needs to work with those players first and get the best out of them. He has got a long way between now and January. I don’t think he will be thinking about changes now.

“They broke records in the summer transfer window. Potter is inheriting a squad that is talented but it is not his. He needs to assess what he has got.

“It will be interesting to see if he is given a budget in January or whether he will need to sell to buy.”

In other news, a pundit has claimed Chelsea boss Graham Potter has dropped a hint over Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future.
