Chelsea discuss replacing Pochettino with 59-yr-old title winner – sources

Chelsea chiefs are still undecided on the future of Mauricio Pochettino, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed the 52-year-old’s position will be reviewed at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

Pochettino has spearheaded a late-season push for European qualification, which could earn him a reprieve this summer – especially given the emphatic nature of the Blues’ recent victories.

However, top-level Chelsea chiefs have been considering alternative options to the Argentine, who is under contract until June 2025.

It is believed that former Bayern Munich and Germany boss Hansi Flick is one option discussed at Stamford Bridge, with the 59-year-old currently unattached and available without the need to pay compensation.

Flick won the Champions League with Bayern in 2020 before taking the Germany national team job a year later – but was dismissed in 2023 after winning just 12 of his 25 games at the helm.

The two-time Bundesliga champion won 70 of his 86 games in charge at the Allianz Arena between 2019 and 2021.

Meanwhile, Pochettino has recently gone on the defensive about his future at Chelsea, insisting it is “difficult to see every single week that I’m under scrutiny and I’m under judgement”.

The Blues, who beat West Ham 5-0 on Sunday (5 May) currently sit seventh in the Premier League but could jump up to fifth with a strong end to the season.

Pochettino was appointed last summer (2023) and has won 24 of his 48 games in charge.
