‘Chelsea face big transfer issue after new blow’ – Stefan Borson

Chelsea are likely to sell several fringe players this summer to balance the books and raise funds for potential new signings.

BlueCo, which is spearheaded by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, has spent around £1.5billion on signings since taking over in May 2022.

The ownership group has come under fire from Chelsea supporters after the club has enjoyed little success on the field over the past three years, with few of their big-money signings making a significant impact.

Raheem Sterling and Joao Felix, who are on loan at Arsenal and AC Milan, both fall into that category after failing to impress for the London giants or during their time away from Stamford Bridge.

Ben Chilwell has also struggled to make an impact since joining Crystal Palace on loan in January, with all three players looking set to return to Chelsea this summer.

Kepa Arrizabalaga has put in several top performances during his loan spell with Bournemouth, but it’s unclear whether they will be able to agree a permanent deal for his services.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Chelsea have a “big issue” in the upcoming transfer window as several players are set to return from their loan deals.

Chelsea also have to decide whether to sign Jadon Sancho, with the club having an option to pay Manchester United £5million to avoid triggering their £25million obligation-to-buy clause.

Chelsea have significant issues after signing spree

Borson insisted Chelsea have significant issues to resolve due to the size of their squad.

He told Football Insider“The big issue that Chelsea have got on the transfer market is if you look at Kepa coming back from Bournemouth potentially, or doing a deal, the deal is going to have to be heavily subsidised.

“You have got Chilwell, who can’t get in the Crystal Palace team, so he’s going to be coming back.

“You have got Sterling, who can’t get into the Arsenal team, so he’s going to be coming back.

“You have got the issue with Sancho in or out. They have either got to buy in at the £25million or give him back and pay the fee.

“They have got a lot of those sorts of issues that they’ve got to deal with first, and there’s a whole load of other players that we forget about like Felix.

“I don’t think he’s going to be staying at AC Milan, so they’ve got many significant issues on the transfer side of things.

“It’s just largely because of the size of the squad that they built up over time.”

Enzo Maresca sack update emerges at Chelsea

Football Insider revealed on 21 April Enzo Maresca has the backing of the Chelsea board despite the recent unrest among the fans.

Sources say Stamford Bridge chiefs see the 45-year-old as the man to take the club forward despite their patchy run of form, which has left them sitting sixth in the Premier League table.
