‘Chelsea face new sponsor blow as crisis deepens every day’ – Stefan Borson

Chelsea are facing a new sponsorship blow as a situation is deepening every day at Stamford Bridge.

The Premier League side played the majority of the 2024-25 season without a front-of-shirt sponsorship deal.

Chelsea wanted to agree a £50million shirt deal last summer before being forced to lower their asking price as the season went on.

The London giants announced a deal in April for DAMAC to appear on the front of their shirts for the remainder of the campaign.

However, Chelsea’s new shirts, which were launched last month, haven’t featured a primary sponsor at the Club World Cup as Stamford Bridge chiefs continue to try and agree a deal.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider every day that goes by will make it less likely a sponsor will appear on the Blues’ shirts on the first day of the new Premier League season.

Chelsea have faced front-of-shirt sponsorship issues for the best part of the past two campaigns.

The club struck a £40million-a-year deal with Infinite Athlete in September 2023, but the agreement expired last summer.

Chelsea were expected to agree immediate shirt deal

Borson revealed it was expected Chelsea would agree a new shirt sponsor deal immediately after securing their place in the Champions League for next season.

He told Football Insider: “There is a problem in football sponsorship right now that is not getting a lot of coverage, but there is a problem.

“Chelsea have still not announced their front-of-shirt sponsor for next season.

“We were led to believe this was all down to Champions League football.

“As soon as they had Champions League football lined up, they had a whole raft of people ready to take the kit.

“But so far, there is nothing and, by the way, every day that goes by makes it less likely they can get it on the kit for the first day of the season in terms of being able to sell it to the fans.

“You can put it on the kit obviously in that week, but it’s an important part for a front-of-shirt sponsor to have the kit with the right sponsor on it.”

Chelsea plan to accept Josh Acheampong offers

In terms of a potential exit at Stamford Bridge, recruitment expert Mick Brown told Football Insider Chelsea are planning to accept offers for Josh Acheampong this summer.

Enzo Maresca’s side are prepared to entertain offers for the 19-year-old despite him only agreeing a new contract until 2029 seven months ago.

Tottenham are among the clubs eyeing a move for Acheampong, while Newcastle United are also keeping tabs on the highly-rated defender.
