Chelsea fans all say same thing about Diego Moreira return after what they’ve just seen
Chelsea fans are demanding to see Diego Moreira return to the club this summer after his latest standout performance for sister club Strasbourg in Ligue 1.
Moreira scored and assisted in Strasbourg‘s 3-1 win over Lyon on Sunday, to help fire Gary O’Neil’s side closer to Champions League contention in Ligue 1.
The 21-year-old set Martial Godo up to open the scoring with a deft flick in the 37th minute, then extended Strasbourg’s lead in the 52nd minute with a deflected long-range effort.
He has now reached 10 combined goals and assists for the 2025-26 season, and his performance against Lyon has caught the attention of many Chelsea fans.
Moreira was once on their books and played one game for the senior team before moving to France in 2024, and they are now demanding that the club look into sealing his return soon.
Chelsea fans want to see Diego Moreira back at Stamford Bridge
Belgium international winger Moreira only managed to make one appearance for the Blues between July 2023 and August 2024, following a move from Benfica.
He struggled on loan at Lyon, but has found his feet at Strasbourg over the last 18 months, with the club’s strong connections to Chelsea helping them compete for European places in Ligue 1.
Moreira is in fine form, with three goals and two assists in his last eight appearances, and his latest fine showing against Lyon has got Chelsea fans clamouring for a summer return.
Taking to X, one supporter said: “Said it when Rosenior joined and will say it again, bring Moreira back to Chelsea in the summer. First Sarr, now him. Tactically fluid player who’s hard working and is getting better each week.”
While another added: “Can we get this guy in exchange of Garnacho please.”
And one posted to say: “Bring the boy back to Chelsea, he’s too good to be sold to rivals.”
Could Moreira really return to Chelsea in the summer?
Moreira was, like many young stars have been, deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge after being given little time to actually show what he could do in the Chelsea first-team.
At the time of his departure in 2024 for around £1.7million, journalist Ben Jacobs reported that the Blues had inserted a buyback clause into the deal, but the figure at which that was set was not made clear.
The Sun, however, claimed last October that Chelsea did not include that option when they sold him to Strasbourg, and they currently have no plans to bring Moreira back.
He has been a real key player for Strasbourg this season, but the Blues chiefs will likely need to see more from him over a prolonged period to be convinced of his quality over the likes of Alejandro Garnacho or Jamie Gittens.
