Kieran Maguire: Chelsea have ‘sounded out’ multiple naming rights partners amid source reveal

Chelsea have likely “sounded out” several potential naming rights partners for Stamford Bridge only to realise they are unable to extract top dollar for a deal to sponsor their stadium.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about a potential brand partnership for the 42,000-seater stadium.

Owner Todd Boehly has committed to increasing capacity at the West London ground as opposed to moving to a new site entirely, a possibility that had been explored earlier in the year.

But a source has told Football Insider that Chelsea have no plans to seek a naming rights deal for a redeveloped Stamford Bridge as part of the upgrades.

The Blues have likely realised that they are unable to attract the same kind of top-tier sponsors as some of their Premier League peers, claims Maguire.

One of the biggest issues with stadium naming rights is you either get in early or not at all,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

Chelsea have probably sounded out potential sponsors and realised the level of interest is quite low. That is what we have seen known as Anfield and Old Trafford.

It is different at Spurs where they have worked quite hard not to call the stadium a new name.

That is in the hope that new stadium will be called the equivalent of the Etihad, the Emirates, the Amex and so on.

The first naming sponsor gets all of the attention. Trying to get people to call Stamford Bridge anything other than Stamford Bridge can have a detrimental effect in extracting anything but top dollar.

In other news, insider claims Chelsea could agree deal with yet another Brighton man after key development.
