Chelsea legend Thiago Silva amazed by Reece James in new message

Chelsea legend Thiago Silva was ecstatic to see Reece James make his return in their 2-1 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday (October 20).

The 24-year-old made his first competitive appearance under new manager Enzo Maresca after suffering yet another hamstring injury in pre-season.

Despite James’ comeback, it wasn’t enough to prevent his team from succumbing to Arne Slot’s impressive Liverpool side.

Mohammed Salah opened the scoring from the spot in the 29th minute before Nicolas Jackson equalised just after half-time.

Curtis Jones then secured all three points for the home side just three minutes after Jackson’s equaliser thanks to a majestic assist from Salah.

Reece James back in the fold at Chelsea

James has been plagued with various injuries for the past two seasons, missing 74 games since the start of the 2022-23 campaign.

The right-back ended the game having won 100 per cent of his tackles and 67 per cent of his ground duels before being substituted after 53 minutes.

Silva, 40, who now ply his trade back in his native Brazil for boyhood club Fluminese, spent four years at the West London club, leading them to the Champions League title under Thomas Tuchel in 2020-21.

The Brazilian responded to a post made by Chelsea’s official Instagram account welcoming their captain back, expressing his joy at his return.

Despite the defeat, Chelsea remain in the conversation for Champions League qualification this season, sitting in sixth place with 14 points from their opening eight Premier League games.

Maresca’s side are back in Europa Conference League action against Greek side Panathinaikos on Thursday as they seek to become the first club to win every major European trophy.
