Chelsea ‘likely’ to accept early Conor Gallagher offer as Boehly opens talks – sources

Chelsea are “likely” to sell Conor Gallagher this summer due to their Profit and Sustainability pressures and a deal could be done earlier than even expected, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that the Blues have still made no progress on a new contract for the midfielder and there has been no agreement between the player and the club.

Sources told Football Insider (9 March) that talks between Gallagher and Chelsea have completely stalled over an improved deal.

Tottenham held talks in January regarding a deal for Gallagher and still hold concrete interest in bringing him to North London in the summer.

Conor Gallagher “likely” to face Chelsea exit this summer

A lack of movement on Chelsea’s negotiations could open the door for Gallagher to make a sensation switch to their fierce London rivals.

Chelsea’s financial woes will force them to sell key stars to help balance their books and avoid a potential points deduction.

Sources have told Football Insider (6 March) that they are planning to sell up to four senior stars before July, with Gallagher high on the list of players they could cash in on.

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness told Football Insider on Friday that Chelsea chief Todd Boehly has jetted out to Saudi Arabia for talks with league chiefs over the ‘fire sale’ of stars before 30th June financial cut-off.

Gallagher’s contract at Stamford Bridge is set to expire at the end of the 2024-25 season, meaning the Blues would be motivated to sell this summer to avoid losing him for free.

As an academy graduate, Gallagher’s departure would register as pure profit on Chelsea’s books – a major boost in their efforts to organise their finances.

Chelsea recently announced losses of £90million in their latest 2022-23 accounts and are now at risk of breaking Premier League financial rules and facing a points deduction if funds aren’t raised before 30 June.
