Kieran Maguire: Chelsea could now sign 33 new deals amid ‘urgent’ Todd Boehly claim
Chelsea could now expand their commercial operation and match Man United in terms of their number of sponsorship deals.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Todd Boehly’s plans to increase commercial revenue.
The Daily Mail reported last Friday (9 December) that the new owner has been astonished by the Blues’ lack of sponsorship deals in comparison to their rivals in the so-called ‘Big Six’.

Chelsea have just 15 active partnerships compared Man United’s 48 and Man City’s 42, and their low commercial yield has been underlined in a recent internal review.
Maguire claims that there is no reason why the Blues cannot now match the depth of their rivals’ sponsorship portfolios.
“Chelsea ultimately are a much smaller club than Man United in terms of their global appeal,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“There is a view taken by some critics that much of their success over the course of the last 20 years has been bought.
“Therefore, there has been less urgency to try and generate financial returns given that Abramovich was always going to underwrite the losses.
“There is no reason why Chelsea can’t increase the number of commercial partners they have.

“They have the advantage of being a London club, which is attractive to many organisations. Also, they are in a very desirable part of London.
“If Chelsea chooses to go down this route of extending the brand, there is no reason they can’t have a similar number of deals as the two Manchester clubs.“
