Finance guru: Chelsea may now be forced to rip up transfer plan amid ‘huge’ claim

Chelsea may have to completely re-think their approach to transfers in line with their targets’ vaccination statuses.

That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about recent remarks by made by Blues boss Thomas Tuchel.

As quoted by The Mirror last Saturday (16 July), the German boss admitted that he would factor in a player’s vaccination status before bringing them to Chelsea.

His comments came after Ruben Loftus-Cheek, 26, and N’Golo Kante, 31, were forced to miss the West London club’s pre-season tour of the United States because they have not had the required jabs.

Per the Daily Mail last Friday (15 July), fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace could face financial penalties because so many of their unvaccinated players were missing for their pre-season tour of Australia.

Dinnery sympathised with Tuchel’s stance in light of this news.

“I’m not surprised that clubs are considering this,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“People have free choice on whether to be vaccinated or not, but you can understand the club’s position. What about big European games?

“We still don’t know what the world will fully look like post-Covid in terms of regulations in different countries. So, it’s a huge risk as we have seen with the Palace example. Clubs have to be aware of that.

“That goes for new signings as well, especially with these lucrative pre-season tours. It comes down to finance. Fans want to see those players.”
