Expert reveals why Wesley Fofana summoned to the US as Chelsea medical details emerge
Wesley Fofana completed his Chelsea medical in the United States because that is where Todd Boehly’s trusted team of doctors reside.
That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.
Sky Sports reported on Monday (29 August) that Fofana was set to fly across the pond to undergo a medical ahead of his switch from Leicester City to Chelsea.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano tweeted on Tuesday (30 August) that the French centre-back has now passed the assessment and the £70million deal, which could rise to £75m with add-ons, can now be completed.
Fofana will be the sixth big-money signing since May’s takeover by Boehly, who is best known for his involvement with baseball outfit the LA Dodgers.
Dinnery insists that it is no surprise to see Fofana summoned to America to finalise his medical with the new owner’s closest associates.
“It is not unusual to send your players to medical practitioners that you trust implicitly,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“We know Boehly is US-based and has the background and experience with the LA Dodgers which is all based in the States.

“I think this will basically be a case of going to people you know and can rely on. I think that’s all this is.
“Boehly’s background is all sports-oriented, so it’s no surprise to see they already have these provisions set up.”
