Chelsea news: De Bruyne cited as expert ‘stunned’ by ‘massive’ Cole Palmer twist

Chelsea star Cole Palmer has the potential to reach the levels of Man City star Kevin De Bruyne.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie hailed Palmer, 21, for his “outstanding” season for the Blues and suggested he is capable of having the same impact as former teammate De Bruyne, who is often dubbed world-class.

Palmer has been a standout amid a tumultuous campaign at the London giants and currently sits joint-top of the Premier League’s goalscorers with City ace Erling Haaland, with both scoring 20.

He is in incredible form having bagged 10 goals and two assists in his last five league outings – most recently his four-goal haul in Chelsea’s 6-0 thrashing of Everton on Monday night (15 April).

Chelsea superstar Cole Palmer to be the new Kevin De Bruyne?

McAvennie suggested that there is still “so much more to come” from the England international and was confident that he would stay humble during his remarkable rise.

“I don’t think he’s even got started yet,” he told Football Insider.

“He strolls through a game and there’s so much more to come from this kid – that’s what’s exciting.

“I’m looking forward to it because it looks like nothing phases him.

“Man City let him go, which I’m stunned by, and you’d think that may have upset him, but he’s gone into that Chelsea team and been outstanding.

“He’s the man now.

“His running off the ball, he’s different class and he’s doing everything at the moment – he’s massive.

“Unless it gets to his head and he starts believing his own hype, which I can’t see happening, he could be up there and be the next De Bruyne.”
