Chelsea news: Ex-coach reveals what club chiefs really thought about Jamal Musiala at Cobham

Chelsea coaches were amazed by Jamal Musiala’s quality when he was a youngster at Cobham.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Saul Isaksson-Hurst, a long-standing former Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal coach of 18 years and who now runs his own business coaching Premier League stars, claimed that coaches called Musiala, 21, a “wow player” who could produce “wow moments”.

The current Bayern Munich star joined the Blues’ academy set up in 2011 at age eight and spent eight years there before joining the German giant’s youth set-up in 2019.

The attacking midfielder has since become a mainstay at Thomas Tuchel’s side having made 157 senior appearances, bagging 43 goals and 30 assists.

Jamal Musiala blew away Chelsea coaches at under-10s level

Isaksson-Hurst was Musiala’s coach with the Blues’ under-10s in 2012 and claimed he stood out among a “very strong” young group which also included Newcastle star Tino Livramento and current Chelsea ace Levi Colwill.

“My first year there I was an under-10s coach,” he told the Inside Track podcast.

“Jamal Musiala was in my group and it was a very talented group actually.

“We had Tino Livramento there, Levi Colwill and several other top, top players.

“But Musiala was one of the players that really stood out in that very, very strong group – very much like he is now.

“He was very creative, liked to take players on and have a go.

“He was very exciting, a wow player we called him with wow moments in academy football.”
