Chelsea news: New Thomas Tuchel problem as dark cloud hovers – pundit

There are question marks over Thomas Tuchel’s long-term Chelsea future, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England full-back claimed the cloud hovering over the club’s ownership has drifted onto the pitch.

As quoted by ESPN on Wednesday (20 April) Tuchel, 48, blamed the Stamford Bridge pitch for his side’s 4-2 loss to Arsenal that night.

He doubled down on his stance today (22 April) via Football Daily and insisted the pitch made the game “awkward” for his players.

Arsenal’s first goal came as Andreas Christensen came when Eddie Nketiah pounced on a loose back pass to Edouard Mendy.

“Maybe they can’t afford to put petrol in the lawnmowers,” Mills joked to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“It would be difficult to say that it has affected them. That’s more to do with what players are going to be there? What are we playing for next season?

“With all these players out of contract, are they going to be here? Can they be offered new deals?

“Is the manager going to be there? There’s a little bit of a cloud hovering over their head and it’s drifting onto the pitch. Performances have been affected by it.

“They’ve lost a few big games, a few big results. Maybe it’s the way they’ve lost them as well.”

Chelsea have lost two of their last three Premier League games but are still set to finish in the top four.

They go into Sunday’s (24 April) game with West Ham in third, five points clear of fifth-place Arsenal.
