Chelsea news: Premier League are furious after new development – Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has suggested Premier League chiefs are “very unhappy” with Chelsea selling their training ground in an intra-company transaction.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Blues may be in a “very bad position” if the top-flight rules the deal illegal.

According to football finance expert Stefan Borson (12 May), Chelsea have attempted to sell their Cobham training ground in an intra-company transaction.

Wyness previously told Football Insider (16 May) that the valuation of the site has increased from £23million in 2015 to £150million – an increase of £127million in nine years.

Borson suggested the sale may be the reason for recent reports claiming the Blues no longer need to sell players for Financial Fair Play reasons before 30 June to avoid a potential points deduction.

Premier League chiefs fume after new Cobham controversy at Chelsea, says Wyness

Chelsea have already sold two Stamford Bridge hotels to a sister company in a bid to raise revenue in their 2023-24 accounts.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “We’ve had no definitive statement either way about whether these deals are going to count towards Chelsea’s financial situation.

“Certainly, in the case of the training ground it seems there is a lot of legal action going on with the land registry and the valuation of the site.

“It’s going to be interesting.

“I think, from the outside, it appears the Premier League are very unhappy with the manoeuvre that Chelsea are trying to pull.

“We’ll have to wait and see whether this is all under the rules and done the correct way.

“Because if it isn’t, then this could put Chelsea in a very bad position.”
