Chelsea news: Robinson baffled by Kai Havertz controversy – ‘he’s going to get caught’

Paul Robinson has heaped praise on referee Anthony Taylor after he penalised Chelsea forward Kai Havertz for diving.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England goalkeeper questioned why Havertz, 22, dived knowing VAR was in operation at Wembley.

The Germany international was booked for simulation in the first half of Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday.

As shown on the BBC‘s FA Cup semi-final highlights (17 April), Havertz threw himself to ground after taking the ball past Palace’s Marc Guehi.

Robinson was over the moon to see Anthony Taylor make the right decision without the aid of technology.

“It was good to see a referee make a decision without using VAR,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“So many times we see referees shy away from making big calls because they have VAR.

“VAR has been used far too many times this season. It shows the standard of refereeing because VAR overturns the majority of decisions. It was great to see Anthony Taylor making a bold decision.

“In regards to Havertz, you wonder why he did it. There’s no point with VAR. He is the only one who is going to get caught. VAR is there for all to see.”
