Chelsea news: Timo Werner could join Premier League rivals after £33.7m update – pundit

Timo Werner could stay in the Premier League after his likely departure from Chelsea this summer, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 26-year-old is “so dangerous” despite his Stamford Bridge struggles.

According to German outlet Sport1 (29 March), Werner is planning to leave Chelsea this summer – with a bid of €40millon (£33.7million) likely to secure his services.

As quoted in the report, the former RB Leipzig man remarked that “things are not going the way I would like” while away on international duty.

Werner has made just eight Premier League starts this season, scoring only once.

Campbell claimed there will be “a few teams queuing up” to secure the 26-year-old’s signature this summer.

“It just hasn’t worked out for Timo Werner at Chelsea,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“But he’s still so dangerous when he plays because of his speed and movement. But obviously Chelsea feel like they’re going to have to make some big moves this summer.

“There’s no point having a striker who isn’t really going to play and isn’t really scoring goals when he does play.

“It’d be good business from Chelsea to get him out. I think there’d be a few teams queueing up to take him, as well.

“Not just back in Germany either, I can see a few Premier League sides taking an interest this summer.”

Werner cost Chelsea a reported fee of around £48million in 2020.

The striker, contracted until 2025, has scored 19 goals in 80 appearances for the Blues.
