Chelsea next manager: Ex-chief executive can’t believe Mauricio Pochettino sack latest
Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has insisted sacking Mauricio Pochettino would be the “worst of all worlds” for Chelsea.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – cited his time with David Moyes on Merseyside, claiming “stability can pay dividends”.
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (2 April) that Chelsea boss Pochettino is under growing pressure as his poor first season at Stamford Bridge continues.
The Blues sit 10th in the Premier League table after their topsy-turvy 4-3 win over Man United on Thursday (4 April).
Pochettino, who is only under contract until June 2025, has won just 21 of his 41 games (51%) in charge of the Stamford Bridge club after his appointment last year (2023).
Wyness can’t believe Chelsea could sack Pochettino after nine months – ‘kneejerk reaction’
That is despite the mammoth investment in the playing squad which saw the likes of Moises Caicedo, Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson arrive at the club alongside the Argentine.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think it would be a huge mistake to sack Pochettino.
“It often takes one, if not two seasons to mould a team together.
“I don’t know closely enough about the personalities in the squad, and whether or not he has the right leaders in his squad.
“It’ll take a lot longer for Pochettino to get a tune out of this side consistently.
“Any move for another manager would be wrong, I think.

“David Moyes was with us at Everton for 10 or 11 years, and I know that stability can pay dividends.
“Pochettino is a capable manager. It would be the worst of all worlds for them to have a kneejerk reaction and make a change.”
