Kieran Maguire: Chelsea now have £47m-a-year deficit amid latest from America
The new regime are unlikely to follow in the footsteps of Roman Abramovich and subsidise Chelsea to the tune of £46.8million per year.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the ambitions of the new ownership group.
A consortium led by American billionaire Todd Boehly completed a £4.25billion takeover of Chelsea in May, officially ending Roman Abramovich’s near two-decade reign.

Boehly also owns 20 per cent of NFL franchise the LA Dodgers and WNBA side the LA Sparks.
Speaking to the Daily Mail last Tuesday (12 July), Dodgers CEO and co-owner Stan Kasten claimed that Chelsea now have the “best ownership group in sports.”
But Maguire does not believe that the new owners will continue to allow the West London club to lose £900,000 per week – £46.8m per year – in pursuit of sporting success.
He told Football Insider’s Adam Williams: “To quote Mandy Rice-Davies, he would say that, wouldn’t he?
“He wants to be positive. There will be a beauty parade from the new ownership group.
“They need to convince the fanbase that the transition from the Abramovich era will be a positive one.
“It is unlikely that they are going to subsidise the club for £900,000 per week for the next 20 years in the same way that Abramovich did.”

Chelsea are currently on a pre-season tour of America.
They begin their 2022-23 campaign away at Everton on 6 August.
