Chelsea now set for summer ‘reset’ as three ‘£80m’ deals suggested – Wyness
Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has claimed Chelsea could sell up to three players for between £60-80million this summer.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested Blues owner Todd Boehly has “moved too quickly” and would be happy to give manager Mauricio Pochettino the chance to “reset his squad”.
Wyness has told Football Insider (15 March) that Boehly has already set up a summer “fire sale” of talent in Saudi Arabia.
Talk of significant sales comes with Chelsea struggling to balance the books after a transfer spend of nearly £1billion since the American’s 2022 takeover.
Finance guru Kieran Maguire told Football Insider on 12 March that Chelsea will be “very close to the limit” of financial regulations in their 2023-24 accounts.
Chelsea chairman Boehly has ‘moved too quickly’ – ‘reset’ now needed, says Wyness
Wyness suggested sales of a huge level will be necessary to avoid a potential points deduction.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think we’re talking in the £60-80m range for up to three players out the door at Chelsea this summer.
“It’s going to take that level of sales to get Chelsea back in a good situation.
“I’m sure there will be a lot of people within Chelsea who realise they moved too quickly in certain areas.
“Perhaps they would even welcome a reset – particularly if it would get them out of a potential points deduction.
“They’ll want to avoid that at every cost.
“I think Boehly will be happy to give Pochettino the chance to reset his squad and have a bigger say.

“It’s hard to know what is going on these days. I dealt with Bruce Buck and Marina Granovskaia, who were much more transparent.
“I think it’s been an attempt to spend too big and move too quickly, without cementing a team spirit together.”
