Chelsea players ‘shocked’ by ‘surprise’ development – O’Rourke
Todd Boehly faces further issues at Chelsea following the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino, with players unhappy with the decision.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that a lack of stability at Chelsea given the turnover of managers is causing “bigger” problems for the ownership.
This comes after Pochettino’s “surprise” dismissal, which sources say left players shocked and disappointed given their turnaround in form.
Boehly’s call has been described as a “gamble” as the owner looks to head in a new direction despite a strong end to the season and the growing possibility of a strong campaign next time out.
Kieran McKenna and Enzo Maresca are in a two-horse race to take over, as reported by Football Insider, with the hope at the club that they can continue to progress, although recent calls have led to scepticism.
Todd Boehly faces new problem at Chelsea after Pochettino sack
Pochettino arrived at Chelsea in 2023, tasked with steering the club back to into European competitions and bringing the positivity back to Stamford Bridge.
Despite doing so, the manager was dismissed following the end of the season, much to the surprise of both the fans and players at Stamford Bridge.
Pochettino has since emerged as a top target to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, Football Insider revealed, with the manager’s job on the line despite victory in the FA Cup.
Five wins from their last five Premier League games saw the Blues finish in sixth place and qualify for the Europa League, which later became the Europa Conference League after United’s cup win.
This was despite a turbulent beginning to the season when it looked borderline impossible for them to make any charge for European football.

The fallout of Pochettino’s sacking has continued at Chelsea, with sources telling Football Insider that the lack of stability has become even clearer following his dismissal.
Boehly’s issues have continued to grow on and off the pitch with questions around profit and sustainability rules lingering – something he will want to deal with quickly.
In other news, four first-team stars are set to be sold imminently at Chelsea.
