Chelsea plot new goalkeeper signing as Robert Sanchez decision made – sources

Chelsea are in the market for a new first-choice goalkeeper ahead of the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed they are planning to sign a new number-one shot-stopper after failing to do so in January.

The Blues had been keen to bring a new goalkeeper to Stamford Bridge but were unable to spend in the mid-season window without some major sales.

Dorde Petrovic, 24, has impressed Mauricio Pochettino and his backroom staff in the injury absence of Robert Sanchez – who had been the first-choice in the first half of the 2023-24 campaign.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Chelsea plan to listen to offers for Sanchez, 26, who is now on the comeback trail after his last appearance against Everton in December 2023.

Petrovic has now made 16 appearances across all competitions this season, keeping four clean sheets and conceding 20 goals.

Sanchez had started every game until his knee injury, keeping five clean sheets and conceding 26 goals.

Both keepers were signed last summer as part of Chelsea’s mega-money overhaul, with Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy allowed to leave for Real Madrid and Al-Ahli respectively.

Sanchez is under contract at June 2030 after costing a reported £25million, while Petrovic is also contracted for six more years and cost a reported £14million.
