Chelsea points deduction: Keith Wyness reveals new punishment date
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness expects any potential charges to be handed out to Chelsea in the second half of next season if they are found to have breached the spending rules.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested there is a “big question mark” over whether the west Londoners have broken the profit and sustainability rules (PSR).
Chelsea exploited a loophole last year by selling two Stamford Bridge hotels to a sister company for a total of £76.5million to offset their major losses.
They posted a loss of £90million in the 2022-23 financial year alone, with current Premier League rules stating top-flight clubs can lose a maximum of £105million over a rolling three-year period.
According to finance expert Stefan Borson (11 July), the London giants sold their women’s team to parent company BlueCo on 28 June to potentially circumnavigate the PSR rules again.
Chelsea could receive potential points deduction in 2025
Wyness admitted it could perhaps go in Chelsea’s favour that there is no precedence for this kind of transaction taking place to bypass the rules.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think it’s going to be the second part of the season.
“I think it will be in 2025 when any charges come out.
“But there is a real big question mark.
“I really need to do further work on the actual details and how they believe this could be acceptable.

“There is certainly no precedent for it, which is probably in their favour.
“It’s new ground that we are breaking into, so we are going to have to watch it closely.”
