Chelsea set for ‘second transfer deadline day’ after PSR twist
Chelsea will face an “unofficial second transfer deadline day” of 30 June amid their growing profit and sustainability worries.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke noted that the Blues will need to balance their books before July to avoid a potentially devastating sanction.
The official summer deadline day is 1 September, but clubs need to file their accounts by 30 June, the end of the football finance year, to ensure they have not overspent and are within PSR regulations.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have shown losses of £211.5million in the last two seasons, but regulations only allow £105million worth of losses over a three-year period.

This will motivate Chelsea to sanction multiple player sales to avoid a potential points deduction and O’Rourke was adamant that clubs could submit “lowball offers” to the underpressure Blues for some of their stars.
“Coming up to 30 June, it seems like it’s going to be the unofficial second transfer deadline day because clubs need to balance their books,” he told the Inside Track podcast.
“They need to get their finances in order before the end of the financial year.
“The name that everybody keeps mentioning is Conor Gallagher – will he be the player that Chelsea need to sacrifice to ensure that they’re within the PSR regulations?
“He has one year left on his contract come this summer, he’s very sellable and has had a very good season for Chelsea.

“But he’s no nearer signing a new contract and Chelsea are open to selling him for pure profit.
“But when clubs know that you’re desperate to sell before a certain date, they might find themselves receiving some lowball offers.”
