Chelsea should be at risk of points deduction after huge twist – Kieran Maguire

Chelsea would face “major” PSR issues for sacking Mauricio Pochettino if it wasn’t for the club exploiting loopholes in the Premier League’s financial regulations.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that parting ways with Pochettino will be very expensive for the Blues.

Chelsea announced last Tuesday (21 May) that they mutually agreed to part ways with manager Pochettino.

The former Tottenham boss signed a three-year contract at Stamford Bridge but was sacked after just one year in charge.

The London outfit are understood to be on the brink of breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules after investing heavily in the squad since their takeover in 2022.

However, Chelsea have appeared to loophole the financial regulations by selling hotels and part of their training ground to balance their books.

Chelsea should be at risk of breaching PSR after Pochettino sack

Maguire explained that sacking Pochettino will be expensive for Chelsea and it should put them at risk of a points deduction had it not been for their PSR loopholes.

Pochettino’s sacking would cause major PSR issues had it not been for the loopholes used by Chelsea with their training ground and hotels,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

There was clearly a breakdown in terms of the relationship between Pochettino and the board.

Chelsea appears to have nobody who understands football at a senior level, and therefore decisions are being made on a fairly ad hoc basis.

Todd Boehly is held in contempt by both the fans and many people in the industry itself because of his off-the-cuff remarks and lack of professionalism.

This will prove to be an expensive decision and a mutual agreement normally means a sacking so this will not come at a zero cost.
