Sources: Conor Gallagher makes up mind on joining Everton

Chelsea star Conor Gallagher has rejected an offer to join Everton, sources have told Football Insider.

The Merseysiders have been working on a deal to land the midfielder, 22, before the 11pm deadline.

But Gallagher has turned down Everton’s advances even though Chelsea have been willing to do a deal.

The central midfielder also has interest from Newcastle United and Crystal Palace in the final hours of the January window.

But Chelsea are reluctant to sell to Newcastle as they consider them a rival for a top-four Premier League finish.

It comes as Chelsea advance on what would be a club-record deal for Benfica star Enzo Fernandez and finalise the sale of Jorginho to Arsenal.

Gallagher, who is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2025, has been a regular fixture for Chelsea this term with 25 times appearances in all competitions.

He has been deployed in central and attacking midfield roles across those outings.

The Toffees wanted to make him their first signing of the winter window which has seen Anthony Gordon leave on a £40m deal to Newcastle.

Gallagher has been capped four times for England and was part of the squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

He spent the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons on loan at West Brom and Crystal Palace, making a major impact at both.

He scored a 90th-minute winner at Palace, his first Premier League goal for Chelsea, earlier this season.
