Medical insider fears Callum Hudon-Odoi may never recover amid Chelsea latest
A loan away from Chelsea is exactly what Callum Hudson-Odoi needs – but it is possible he may never reach pre-injury levels again.
That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.
Chelsea confirmed on Tuesday (30 August) that Hudson-Odoi, 21, will spend the remainder of 2022-23 on loan at Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen.
The Cobham academy graduate has struggled with an Achilles tendon problem and various associated issues in the last 12 months.
The attacker has previously explained how the injury led to nerve difficulties and an ability to generate power in his legs.
Dinnery claims there are “no guarantees” that Hudson-Odoi will be able to hit the heights he did before his Achilles injury during his time in Germany and beyond.
“It’s certainly what he needs,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“We haven’t seen anything like the pre-injury Hudson-Odoi since he came back. To go out and get as many minutes under his belt as possible will be good for him.
“That will at least give him the chance to prove himself again on the biggest stage.

“But with serious injuries, everyone always assumes that you can shake them off and come back bigger and better. That isn’t always the case, particularly with Achilles tendon ruptures and particularly for those who use explosive movements.
“You do tend to see a greater decrease in sporting performance. So, we hope he’ll get back to those levels but there are absolutely no guarantees.”
