Chelsea news: Medical guru issues verdict on Mason Mount returning v Lille after update from Cobham
Mason Mount has an “outside chance” of featuring for Chelsea in the Champions League last-16 clash against Lille on Tuesday night (22 February).
That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.
Mount was forced off half an hour into Chelsea’s eventual 2-1 extra-time win over Palmeiras in the Club World Cup final on 12 February.
The Cobham academy graduate sustained an ankle ligament injury that ruled him out of the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace last Saturday (9 February).
But the 23-year-old was photographed by club media back in team training yesterday (21 February) ahead of tonight’s European fixture
Dinnery claims that Mount could be ready to play a role off the bench under the lights at Stanford Bridge.
“It’s amazing what a cup final on the horizon can do in helping them focus,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“He took part in the session on Monday so there’s an outside chance that he might play a part in the Champions League.
“He could be in and around the group but I wouldn’t expect him to start.
“If Tuchel decides that the game against Lille is too soon, that stands him in really good stead for the cup final.
“He can use these next few days to be fully integrated with the team.
“He hasn’t been out for long but he’ll want to regain that sharpness and fitness well in time for the League Cup final.
“So he won’t be too far away and there is a chance that he could feature in that squad to face Lille tonight.”

Chelsea take on Liverpool in the League Cup final on Sunday (27 February).
Mount has registered seven goals and eight assists in 34 appearances this season.
