Chelsea submitting new Samu Omorodion bid – sources
Chelsea are expected to return with an improved offer for Atletico Madrid star Samu Omorodion in the coming days.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke has explained that following the rejection of an initial offer of around £27m from Atletico, the Spanish giants are anticipating a second bid for the 20-year-old striker.
Omorodion is yet to have made his senior Atletico debut since signing from Granada last summer, immediately being shipped out on loan to Alaves, where he scored eight goals in 34 La Liga appearances.
The potential transfer deal is shrouded in uncertainty due to Omorodion’s status as an unknown quantity, despite possessing “all the attributes” required to flourish into a Premier League centre-forward.
Chelsea prioritising No. 9 search
Chelsea are viewing the recruitment of an out-and-out No. 9 as a “key priority”, with eggs in the basket of several summer targets.
Football Insider reported on 16 June that the club had agreed a “deal in principle” with Aston Villa for Colombian striker Jhon Duran, but this move has recently stalled and cause the Blues to redirect their attention towards Omorodion.
The Duran deal does still hold a firm chance of being reignited due to Villa’s requirement to sell players in order to meet PSR criteria.

But more focus is being placed in the Spanish youth international by Chelsea with Atletico bracing for a second bid.
As reported by Football Insider on 20 June, Villa will pay an initial sum of £35m to Chelsea for Ian Maatsen, funding which can be reinvested into attacking areas for Enzo Maresca’s side.
