Brighton defender Ben White would favour a move to Chelsea over Arsenal this summer, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds United and Middlesbrough striker Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, is adamant the 23-year-old would favour a move to Stamford Bridge to play Champions League football next season.

This site revealed on July 3rd that Arsenal are very confident of completing the signing of the Brighton centre-half after the Euros finish.

The Gunners are in advanced talks with Brighton regarding the structure of a deal worth up to £50million including performance-related add-ons.

According to Duncan Castles, speaking on The Transfer Window podcast (July 3rd), Chelsea have registered their interest in signing White.

When asked by Football Insider if Chelsea could blow Arsenal out of the water to sign White, Whelan said:

“If you give Ben White the option of Arsenal or Chelsea right now, he is going to choose Chelsea because they are playing Champions League football.

“They are the Champions League winners and a club going from strength to strength under Thomas Tuchel. The squad is superior and they are in the Champions League. Right now, Chelsea are ahead in every aspect.

“As a player you have to look at where you would be more successful. Chelsea are one of the top clubs in Europe right now so given the choice, I’m sure White would rather go to Chelsea.”
