‘Chelsea to blow Arsenal and Tottenham out of the water’ after £30m reveal

Arsenal and Tottenham are looking to cash in on commercial opportunities this summer to help boost their revenues.

Arsenal’s revenue increased from £466.7million to £616.6million in 2023-24, while Spurs’ turnover fell from £549.6million to £528.2million across the same period.

The Premier League sides have announced they will play each other in Hong Kong on 31 July as part of their pre-season tours.

It will be the first north London derby to take place outside of London.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Arsenal and Tottenham will likely earn around £2million each from the fixture.

However, he insisted that will be significantly lower than what Chelsea and Man City will bank from the Club World Cup this summer.

Chelsea and Man City are set to land a guaranteed £30million from the 32-team competition, which is set to take place in the US between 15 June and 13 July.

The overall winner of the Club World Cup is in line to land a £97million windfall.

Tottenham told to increase spending after Premier League blow

Borson insisted the money Arsenal and Tottenham generate from their game in Hong Kong isn’t going to move the dial for either club.

He told Football Insider: “I don’t know what the ticket prices are proposed to be, but you would think they’re going to be quite expensive.

“Ultimately, what’s that game worth? That game is worth whatever it’s generating in terms of matchday and whatever it can generate in sponsorship, which is probably not much.

“You wouldn’t imagine it’s going be worth much more than $6million (£4.7million) maybe. You are getting a proportion of that. It might be worth £2million each.

“It’s not going to move the dial massively, but the whole pre-season tour will be worth more.

“It doesn’t even come close to what Chelsea and City are going to get from the Club World Cup. There is another illustration of the problem.

“If you have the situation this summer where six teams are in next season’s Champions League, and Tottenham aren’t one of them, and then on top of that maybe two of those teams are also getting Club World Cup money, it’s just going to be almost impossible for Spurs to compete next season on this sort of wage bill without the sort of investment that we’re thinking about.”

Richarlison certain to agree Tottenham exit

Former Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider Richarlison isn’t part of Tottenham’s long-term plans following his difficult spell in north London.

Everton are one of the clubs interested in a move to re-sign the Brazil international, who remains very highly-regarded on Merseyside despite his exit in 2022.
