‘Chelsea to hold talks over Penders exit as Amougou move faces impact’
Mike Penders’ potentially-impending exit from Chelsea this summer may have knock-on effects for teammate Mathis Amougou.
The Belgian wonderkid has only just joined the club after a pre-agreed move with Genk that saw the 19-year-old remain with his boyhood club on loan last season.
Despite joining up with the Blues for the Club World Cup (CWC) campaign in the USA, Penders is yet to make an appearance for his new side.
Enzo Maresca appears to be keeping faith in Robert Sanchez as his first-choice goalkeeper, despite the Spaniard enduring a difficult 2024/25 campaign.
Djordje Petrovic was left out of Chelsea’s squad for the CWC entirely and is expected to leave the West London club, and Penders may follow his Serbian teammate out of his new club.

Chelsea considering Penders loan to Strasbourg
According to Sky Sports Switzerland journalist Sacho Tavolieri on X, Chelsea are considering loaning Penders to Strasbourg this summer.
However, if the Belgian goalkeeper makes France his temporary home next year, this could impact Amougou’s mooted loan move to the Ligue 1 side.
The two clubs share owners and have regularly made use of that connection, with Andrey Santos, Diego Moreira, Petrovic, Mamadou Sarr, Caleb Wiley, and Angelo all spending time at both clubs.
However, FIFA rules limit Chelsea to sending just three loan players to Strasbourg per season.
Kendry Paez is expected to move on loan to Liam Rosenior’s side, having spent a period training with the French side, and with just one more spot available, the club may choose to keep that open for other options and send Amougou elsewhere, or the Blues could sell the Frenchman to their sister club with a buy-back clause in place.
