Chelsea told how to solve glaring problem after ‘awful’ footage analysed
Chelsea must sign experienced players this summer to fix their continuing “petulance” problem.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie was baffled that the Blues have recruited so many young stars and urged them to bring in some older players to stop their “rollercoaster” trajectory.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have been in relatively decent form in recent weeks and have shown flashes of brilliance, but devastating defeats, including their 5-0 thrashing against Arsenal on Tuesday (23 April), and in-game bust-ups have been widely criticised by fans.
Recent young signings including Enzo Fernandez, 23, Moises Caicedo, 22, and Nicolas Jackson, 22, have been far below expectations – especially considering the huge fees they cost.
Chelsea need leaders to fix ‘petulance’ of youngsters – McAvennie
McAvennie claimed that leadership is required in Chelsea’s starting line-up to “sort out” their woes.
“They have too many kids in their team,” he told Football Insider.
“I don’t know why they decided to go out and buy all this young talent – nobody has any experience!
“Teams like Liverpool have a young squad, but they have great experience in there too.
“They’d actually been playing quite well before the Arsenal game, but they were awful.
“They should have beaten Man City in the FA Cup and they battered Everton.

“But you can see the petulance in some of the young boys – there’s nobody to sort them out.
“If they don’t get experience in amongst the kids, it’s going to continue being a rollercoaster.”
