Chelsea told to pull out all the stop to sign ‘A-list midfielder’ after Moises Caicedo twist – Agbonlahor

Chelsea have been told to pull out all the stops to complete the on-off signing of Moises Caicedo.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed that it is imperative another midfielder is signed to partner Enzo Fernandez.

The Blues have been leading the chase for Moises Caicedo all summer and have had multiple bids rejected by the Seagulls as they hold out for their £100million asking price.

Football Insider has now revealed (2 August) that Liverpool have have been in contact with Brighton to register their interest in Caicedo as they desperately look to add to their midfield options.

According to The Athletic, an unidentified club are claimed to have submitted an £80million-plus bid surpassing Chelsea’s most recent offer.

With Chelsea potentially missing out on Caicedo, Agbonlahor believes that it could be detrimental for the Blues.

Chelsea will struggle to finish in the top four without signing an A-list midfielder,” he told Football Insider.

“They have Enzo Fernandez who you know needs partnership with a big player in the middle.

“Caicedo and Fernandez will probably be closesr to one of the best midfield partnerships in the world.

Brighton

So Chelsea still need that other midfielder in there to create a partnership.

“And if you haven’t got your midfield sorted, you’re gonna struggle to get into the top four, you look at all the teams that have a strong midfield, for example, Liverpool have rebuilt that area.   “Arsenal have Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Martin Odegaard also, so Chelsea must strengthen in that area.”
