Chelsea told to pull Trevoh Chalobah U-turn after crushing £70m blow – Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Chelsea should reconsider their plans to sell Trevoh Chalobah this summer.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted there is an argument for the Blues adding one more defender in the transfer market following Wesley Fofana’s crushing injury.

Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (26 July) that Inter Milan are in advanced talks to sign Chelsea star Chalobah – but the defender would prefer to remain at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues’ willingness to sell comes despite £70million defender Fofana suffering a crushing anterior cruciate ligament injury in training last week which will keep him out for several months.

Chalobah’s contract runs until 2028 after he signed a bumper extension last year (2022).

He made 34 appearances across all competitions last season and has now racked up 45 Premier League games for Chelsea.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I do like Chalobah, he’s had some really good games – I don’t think Chelsea should be looking to move him on.

“Chelsea should be happy with what they’ve got, even without Fofana.

“Colwill, Badiashile, Thiago Silva, Chalobah. If they’re being greedy, then you could maybe argue for one more coming in.

Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana.

“But Pochettino has got to be happy with those options.

“There was talk of Chalobah leaving, but I think they should only consider it if it’s a really big fee.”
