Chelsea told to sanction Callum Hudson-Odoi exit after journalist’s Newcastle United update – pundit

Alan Hutton has stressed the importance of Chelsea “reaching an agreement” with Callum Hudson-Odoi to leave the club this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said the Blues “have to do what’s right” for the 21-year-old if he is unhappy.

According to the Daily Mail (7 August), the winger has expressed his desire to leave Stamford Bridge.

Hudson-Odoi was left out of the matchday squad for Chelsea’s opening Premier League fixture.

He was an unused substitute in their 3-0 defeat to Leeds United on Sunday (21 August).

According to the Evening Standard‘s Nizaar Kinsella (17 August), new owner Todd Boehly will only allow the forward to leave on loan.

Newcastle United, Borussia Dortmund, Leicester and Southampton are all said to be vying for his signature.

When asked if teams shouldn’t hold on to players that want to leave, Hutton told Football Insider: “It is important.

I think the big issue that we all talk about now is mental health and having players just stuck there and going downhill, you see it with the likes of Dele Alli. They’re top players and all they want to do is play, so of course everything has to be right. If it’s a loan, if it’s a sell-on.

Chelsea

I’m not saying clubs just have to let their players go, that’s not what I’m getting at, but you have to do what’s right for everybody. There’s no point having a player staying there, unhappy season after season when all he wants to do is go out and play football.

I think the player and club has to come to some sort of agreement to help each other for the best.
