Chelsea transfer news: Jamie Gittens bids farewell after confirmed Dortmund exit

Chelsea target Jamie Gittens took to social media to say farewell to former manager Nuri Sahin who was recently sacked by Borussia Dortmund.

Sahin, 36, who had two stints at the German club as a player before taking over as manager in the summer of 2024, was given his marching orders after Dortmund’s 2-1 Champions League defeat to Bologna on Tuesday (January 21).

The Turkish manager leaves the club sitting in tenth in the Bundesliga and 14th in the new Champions League league phase.

Football Insider revealed (January 23) that Gittens, 20, is open to moving to West London in the January transfer window, with the club seeking to replace Mykhailo Mudryk following his failed drug test.

It’s understood the young Englishman has been on the club’s radar for some time, although there is a feeling it would cost a hefty fee to bring him to the Premier League.

The England Under-21 international joined the German club from Manchester City in 2020, seeking first-team opportunities and following a similar path to current Chelsea winger Jadon Sancho.

Gittens has established himself as a key player for Dortmund, starting 22 of his 27 games across all competitions, scoring 11 goals, and providing five assists in his 1867 minutes of action.

The winger took to Instagram to say his goodbyes to Sahin, saying: “Thank you for everything and I wish you nothing but the best for the future.”

Chelsea will travel to Man City on Saturday (January 25) in what could be a crucial game for both club’s Champions League ambitions.

Enzo Maresca’s side will then host former manager Graham Potter and his new West Ham side in a London derby eight days later.
