Chelsea transfer news: ‘No new signings’ this summer as Todd Boehly jets out – Wyness
Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has claimed Chelsea may be unable to make any new signings in the upcoming summer window due to their critical financial position.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the club’s £920million spending spree in the last two years has “backed them into a pretty tight corner”.
Football Insider finance guru Kieran Maguire warned earlier this month (12 March) that Chelsea will be “very close to the limit” of Profitability and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) in the 2023-24 season.
The Blues have already posted combined losses of £211.5million in the last two seasons – with PSR only permitting a deficit of £105million over three years.
Boehly has found ‘whole new reality’ at Chelsea, says Wyness
Chelsea are therefore planning to sell multiple first-team stars this summer to comply with the rules – with Wyness telling Football Insider last week (15 March) that owner and chairman Todd Boehly has already set up a summer “fire sale” of talent in Saudi Arabia.
The ex-Everton chief told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Unless they are successful in getting the right players out the door, then there won’t be any coming in this summer.
“It’s going to be a problem for Chelsea, certainly.
“They’ve got a lot of players on long-term contracts, as well.
“I don’t think they foresaw the fact that the Profit and Sustainability Rules would be applied as rigorously as they have been.

“I’m pretty sure that wasn’t in the risk register when Boehly bought the club, but they’re now finding a whole new reality.
“The initial spending spree at the club has backed them into a pretty tight corner.”
