Chelsea will be rejected by transfer targets after ‘meltdown’ – Keith Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted players will reconsider joining Chelsea for “footballing reasons” after the treatment of some stars.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed future targets will be “better off elsewhere” if they are not moving “for money”.
Chelsea excluded many top players from their first-team ranks over the summer, including Raheem Sterling, Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah – who were eventually moved on.
Some stars remain outside the senior squad despite the close of the English transfer window, like Ben Chilwell and David Datro Fofana.
The Blues continued their aggressive recruitment policy in the summer, signing stars like Joao Felix, Pedro Neto and Jadon Sancho.
Wyness claimed future targets could think twice about joining the project at Stamford Bridge.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “You’d expect the PFA to be in contact with Chelsea, you’d expect them to be vocal as the union for the players.
“But players have it in their own hands. This bomb squad, it’s up to them to take action.
“They’re under contract and I’m sure they’re quite happy to take the paycheck.
“They’re happy to take the money and sign the contract. I’m sure their agents will be working overtime to get a move.
“The problem will be the wages at Chelsea – that’s the big sticking point. This summer has been a real meltdown at Stamford Bridge.

“Players will have to consider this in the future when they have an offer from Chelsea.
“Are you going for money or are you going for football? If it’s footballing reasons, you might be better off elsewhere.”
