Chelsea will pay Raheem Sterling ‘a premium’ to join Man United – Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Chelsea will have to pay Raheem Sterling “a premium” to complete a late move away from the club.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the 29-year-old still has a lot to offer in the Premier League and will find a new home before Friday’s (30 August) transfer deadline.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (26 August) that Chelsea and Man United could agree a sensational swap deal featuring Jadon Sancho and Sterling.

The two wingers are both high earners at their respective clubs but are wanted by the other before the transfer window shuts.

Sterling has also been linked with the likes of Juventus, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace.

He was exiled from the first-team squad at Chelsea earlier this month following the arrivals of Pedro Neto and Joao Felix.

Wyness insisted the Blues will find it “very expensive” to get their exiled stars off the books before the deadline.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think he’ll be off.

“He’s too good of a player to be wasted.

“Juventus and Man United have been mentioned and I think he’ll find a new home.

“His skills, experience, and knowledge of the game is worthwhile to have.

“It’s going to come down to how much a team can negotiate with Chelsea to contribute to the wages.

“It could be a loan, but if it’s permanent then Chelsea will still have to subsidise the deal in some way.

“This is when it’s going to come back to roost for Chelsea as they try and get rid of these players.

“They are going to have to pay a premium just to get them off the books.

“They’ll find it very expensive.

“Sterling will find a home. He’s got a lot to offer still in the Premier League, and I think it’s fair that he get the chance to do it.”
