Chelsea will ‘regret’ selling Billy Gilmour amid Man City transfer claim – Hutton
Alan Hutton has claimed Chelsea will “regret” selling Billy Gilmour to Brighton.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Tottenham and Villa right-back said Gilmour can “fulfil his potential” at the Amex Stadium after falling down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.
On 2 September, the Blues confirmed the midfielder has joined Brighton on a permanent transfer.
Gilmour was on the bench for Brighton’s 5-2 win over Leicester City on Sunday (4 September).
He was subbed on in place of Moises Caicedo to see out the final minute of injury time.
The Scotland international had been out of favour at the Blues before his permanent exit and spent the 2021-22 season on loan with Norwich City.
As quoted by the Metro (7 September), former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin would not be surprised if the London club buy back the midfielder in years to come.
Nevin also suggested the ex-Rangers player could end up at the likes of Liverpool and Man City given his potential.
Hutton insisted Gilmour had to leave Chelsea after falling out of favour at the London club.

“Will Chelsea regret it? Possibly,” he told Football Insider.
“If he goes there and does well and fulfils the potential that we all know he has then of course they would’ve wanted to keep him. But he’s dropped down the pecking order so he had to go out and do something.“
