'I wouldn't want him in my club' - Aston Villa expert reacts as offer submitted for Morgan Rogers replacement

Aston Villa are making a mistake by pursuing a move for Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho.

That is the opinion of former senior Villa scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

Unai Emery has sanctioned a move for the 22-year-old, who only joined the Blues from Manchester United last summer.

Villa are discussing a loan with an obligation to buy for Garnacho, as they look to replace Morgan Rogers' influence on the left of the attack.

The England international went the other way this week, joining Chelsea in a record £117million move.

Johan Manzambi is seen as his direct replacement in the midfield, but Villa will also need to cover the minutes he spent on the left of the attack.

Bryan King unimpressed by Alejandro Garnacho links

When Garnacho initially broke through for Manchester United in the 2022-23 season, he was seen as an incredibly exciting talent.

The 2023-24 season saw him make 36 Premier League appearances at the age of just 19, scoring seven goals and providing four assists.

Even the 2024-25 season was not awful for the Argentina international, but problems off the pitch had become frequent.

Ultimately, Man United decided to sell Garnacho and shipped him to Chelsea for £40m last summer.

But in his debut campaign, the winger scored just one Premier League goal and often frustrated, with Chelsea now keen to offload him once more.

Emery clearly believes there is more to the 22-year-old, but not everyone agrees.

"Who do you replace him [Rogers] with? You mentioned a couple of names. I wouldn't entertain either of them," King told Football Insider.

"Certainly not Garnacho. I wouldn't want him in my football club." Villa are also said to have looked at a deal for Nicolas Jackson.

King added: "Who's he going to play up front with? [Tammy] Abraham and [Ollie] Watkins?"

Bryan King reveals the Chelsea player he would sign

If Villa were getting a player coming the other way from Chelsea, there would be likely be some favourable options than Garnacho.

Josh Acheampong, for example, has been linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge this summer amid a drive for playing time.

Asked who he would choose, King simply replied: "[Cole] Palmer!"

The 24-year-old is Chelsea's prized asset and expected to play alongside Rogers as Xabi Alonso's key men.
