Chelsea will have a tough time getting £120million for Enzo Fernandez this summer after his red card against Spain in the World Cup final.

The 25-year-old midfielder was foolishly sent off on Sunday for a second bookable offence for a reckless challenge on Spain defender Pau Cubarsi just before extra-time.

This allowed Spain to gain the edge they needed to find a winner as Ferran Torres netted after 106 minutes.

Instead, Fernandez’s red card was one of the most foolish challenges in the history of the competition.

Argentina were already heavily on the backfoot and the midfielder still decided to recklessly go in on Cubarsi, despite being on a yellow card.

For potential suitors, this shows that the 25-year-old is ill-disciplined and is also inconsistent when it comes to big matches.

Therefore, it is hard to see anyone paying Chelsea’s asking price, and it has surely now dropped by about £20m.

Do Chelsea want to sell Fernandez this summer?

Despite the interest in Fernandez, a departure was unlikely even before the 2026 World Cup final.
