Chelsea’s new leadership team ‘freed up’ to agree massive deal by Todd Boehly

Chelsea’s brand new leadership team have been tipped to finally get a massive deal over the line after being freed up by Todd Boehly.

Enzo Maresca’s side have made a number of changes behind the scenes after some big failings in terms of sponsorships.

In their latest reshuffle of the commercial team, Chelsea confirmed the departure of chief revenue officer Casper Stylsvig.

Todd Kline is now the president of commercial, Phil Lynch is the new chief digital officer, and James Murray has been promoted to chief operating officer, with the trio reporting to Jason Gannon.

Chelsea to finally agree sponsorship deal

Chelsea have been trying to secure a front-of-shirt sponsor for some time now, but have so far failed to find a company willing to meet their financial expectations.

However, Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that the commercial team have now been freed up to get a deal over the line.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that the front-of-shirt sponsor is a priority for Boehly.

Wyness added that it is time for Chelsea to get the revenue in, rather than holding out for a bigger price.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “There’s been a lot of talk about the front of shirt sponsor. That’s got to be a priority because that’s been a lot of revenue that’s been missing from the Chelsea bottom line.

“The president, Jason Gannon, has a lot of experience in that sort of area. He ran the SoFi Stadium over in LA and was big for Stan Kroenke. So he’s been around that whole area, understands it well.

“It’s a new team with new life in it. I think they’re determined now. It was a strategy to hold out for the right prices. I think you’ll see this new team saying, okay, let’s get a deal done and get the revenue in.

“It’s time to get that done. So I expect things to be happening pretty quickly, and they’ll try and salvage the season. It may well be with an associated party as well, which is interesting given the recent rulings that open up that issue a little bit more.

“I think they feel freed up to a degree now to go and get something done because I’m sure that Todd Boehly wants that money on the bottom line, because it’s been flying out for quite a while now, and they’ve got to start bringing it back in.”

Chelsea searching for another sponsorship deal

Chelsea also don’t currently have a sleeve sponsorship deal in place after their agreement with Live Nation expired this summer.

The partnership began earlier this year, but didn’t continue beyond the conclusion of the Club World Cup.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (19 September) Chelsea are looking to agree a £15million-a-year deal after starting the new season without a sleeve sponsor.

However, with the Blues seven games into the new Premier League campaign, a deal is yet to be confirmed.
