‘Chelsea’s trigger-happy owners to make Enzo Maresca sack decision’

Enzo Maresca is facing growing pressure on his position as Chelsea manager and could be sacked sooner rather than later.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that serious questions will be asked at Stamford Bridge if results don’t improve.

Chelsea have won just three of their last 11 games across all competitons and have slipped to sixth place in the Premier League, just six points above tenth-placed Brighton.

It was the Seagulls who were able to pile further pressure on Maresca with back-to-back wins in the FA Cup and Premier League, including a 3-0 win at the Amex.

These results, Brown explained, will have raised red flags for the Chelsea hierarchy who will also be aware of the sudden downturn in form at Stamford Bridge.

Given the club’s previous trigger-happy history when it comes to hiring and firing managers, the growing pressure may eventually become too much for the boss.

Brown explained that defensive frailties are at the hear of Chelsea’s recent dip in form, and that is an area Maresca must address if he wants to keep his job.

However, the former scout who has a wealth of experience working closely with elite managers including the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Ron Atkinson at Man United, has now insisted that a failure to turn results around amid pressure from fans will see him sacked.

I think the pressure on his position is growing,” he told Football Insider.

“These owners have been very trigger-happy since they took over, so nothing would surprise me.

“Results in recent weeks haven’t been good enough, there’s no doubt about that.

“Then when the fans start to make their voices and concerns known, it only adds to that pressure.

“If they don’t start winning games soon, especially when you look at where they were earlier this season, I think they’ll get rid of him.

“But if he can start to put a run of a few wins together then the whole complexion changes.

“The biggest problem they’ve got at Chelsea is the lack of stability in their side.

“They’ve got some very good assets, but at the back the solidity just isn’t there, and that spreads throughout the team.

“So that’s a problem the manager has to address quickly to turn things around.”

Stamford Bridge crowd turn on Enzo Maresca

In the wake of the 3-0 defeat to Brighton on 14 February, many Blues supporters have been vocal in their frustrations towards the manager and his style.

Football Insider reported that fans have been calling for Maresca to be sacked as there is a growing feeling that he is no longer getting the best out of his players.

There has been a noticeable drop in the performances of a number of key players including the likes of Cole Palmer which has raised further red flags amongst the fans.

As the pressure on Maresca continues to grow, there is an expectation that once the fans begin to turn on the manager, he is a dead man walking.
