Cherki and Gvardiol react to Man City’s Oscar Bobb message amid exit talk

Rayan Cherki and Josko Gvardiol have reacted to a new message from Man City about Oscar Bobb amid rumours of the youngster being set to leave the club soon.

Bobb burst onto the first-team scene in the 2023/24 campaign, after he initially joined City’s youth set-up in 2019 from Norwegian side Valerenga.

The tricky winger impressed in his first full season in Pep Guardiola’s squad, but was struck down by a serious injury last term which limited him to just three Premier League appearances as he only returned to full fitness in April.

At 21-years-old, he is a real talent that is only going to get better, but a potential lack of chances in the Citizens’ senior side right now have seen former chief scout Mick Brown recently tell Football Insider that Bobb could join Nottingham Forest or Crystal Palace on loan this summer.

Bobb is certainly doing his best to prove himself worthy of a chance next season, however, and his latest exploits may have thrusted him further into Guardiola’s plans for 2025/26.

Cherki and Gvardiol react to Man City’s Oscar Bobb praise after his first Club World Cup goal

City continued their stellar start to their defence of the Club World Cup on Monday (23 June) as they thrashed Al-Ain 6-0 in Atlanta in their second group game.

Bobb started on the bench but came on just after the hour mark, and he helped the Citizens on their way to victory with a neatly-taken goal in the 84th minute to make it 5-0.

That was only his third competitive goal for City since his debut in 2023, and the club reacted to his strike with an Instagram post of him and his teammates celebrating alongside the caption: “Oscar Bobb Bobb Bobb,” with musical emojis to signify a nod to the song that their supporters have for him.

The Citizens’ message was reacted to by a number of Bobb’s teammates, with Cherki, Gvardiol, Savinho and Nathan Ake all liking the post to show their support.

Guardiola should keep Bobb as a forward option next season

Football Insider verdict

Bobb looked set to build on his impressive debut senior campaign with an even bigger impact in 2024/25, but the leg fracture he suffered in pre-season took a long time to heal, and he only featured fleetingly towards the end of the term.

City struggled to compete on all fronts in his absence, and while his injury was not a main factor in their downfall, they would undoubtedly have benefitted from having him fit to give their main attackers a better rest during busy periods.

Bobb’s City career record

Now he is back in the fold, and his impactful cameo against Al-Ain is proof that Guardiola needs him in his squad the new season, despite former scout Brown revealing to Football Insider that City are set to accept loan offers for Bobb this summer to help him get back up to speed.

A move to either Forest or Palace would make sense on the face of it due to their respective upcoming European campaigns, but he has already shown that he is good enough to be a regular in City’s squads, and so it makes more sense for them to keep him around as they look to return to winning the top prizes next term.
