Chris Sutton asks question of Warburton after Rangers January business

By Harvey Byrne

Chris Sutton has asked questions of Mark Warburton after Rangers made two midfield loan signings in January.

The Ibrox giants brought in just three players in January with goalkeeper Jak Alnwick joining permanently from Port Vale, while midfield duo Emerson Hyndman and Jon Toral joined on loan from Bournemouth and Arsenal respectively.

The small amount of business follows on from the summer when Rangers brought in 11 players in total, including five central midfielders in Joey Barton, Jordan Rossiter, Niko Kranjcar, Matt Crooks and Josh Windass.

Now, Sutton believes that the two midfield signings in January signify that Warburton got his business wrong in the summer, while also stating that Rangers should not be a feeder club for the English teams.

“Jason Holt left out the other night, Josh Windass, where are all these signings,” started Sutton speaking on BT Sports.

“It’s an admission that he’s got all his signings wrong at the start of the season. Rangers football club shouldn’t be a development club for English clubs and that’s what they are at the moment by getting these two boys up. Are they going to sign for Rangers in the summer? Of course not.

“He’s appeasing Arsene Wenger, he’s appeasing Eddie Howe. He should be appeasing the Rangers support.”

From the midfield five, neither Barton or Crooks are still with the team after the former had his contract terminated in November, while the 23-year-old moved out on loan to Scunthorpe in January.

Additionally, both Kranjcar and Rossiter have 21 appearances between them in all competitions due to long-term injuries.

The Rangers midfield were also overrun in midweek with Hearts running out emphatic 4-1 winners over the Gers on Wednesday evening.

But, as a whole Warburton’s side have been performing as expected in their first season back in the top flight as they sit in second place after 23 fixtures.

In other Rangers news, Sutton also destroyed dishonest Gers chiefs, while laying into Warburton once more.
